december session - in memoriam George Kuchar
December 16th 2011
Café am Ostbahnhof
8:00pm
One of our favourite underground film makers, George Kuchar, died on September 6th, 2011.
George began making 8mm movies in the 1950s with his twin brother Mike. They reenacted famous Hollywood movies - starring their neighbours - and soon became central to the underground, avant-garde film scene, screening work alongside Andy Warhol, Jack Smith and Kenneth Anger.
We decided to have one of our screenings dedicated to George and celebrated our commemoration with movies, chili con carne and a Super8 projector build from gingerbread. We are pretty sure that George's beloved dog Bocko, starring in "The Mongreloid" would have become friends with Mable, the dog at "Café am Ostbahnhof" where the screening took place...
